The Flathead River gets its beginning way up high in Glacier National Park. The north end of it flows through National Forest until it glides into the Flathead Valley where there is an opportunity to live along its wide banks from Hungry Horse, Columbia Falls, East Valley, Kalispell, Lower Valley and Bigfork where it keeps Flathead Lake filled. To the south it flows out, goes over Kerr Dam SW of Polson, and then ultimately meets up with the Clark Fork River. Because of its length and winding nature, real estate for sale is plentiful along the main body and many offshoot sloughs formed over time. There are several well established Montana State fishing access sites to launch your boat or raft – Search Montana FWP for fishing access sites on the Flathead River.
