The 4th of July Parade brings thousands to the village of Bigfork.

People are usually amazed to find out how much is going on in the area.  Just check the local papers and you’ll find something going on in every town in NW Montana’s Flathead Valley that is cultural, sporting, nature or civic related.

Check out 102 Things to Do in Western Montana + Glacier Park published by Glacier Country Tourism.  Peruse through the list and you’ll find an endless supply a great activities and seasonal adventures.  But remember there is nothing wrong with grabbing a book and just relaxing on the hammock.

Bigfork’s famous 4th of July parade (2014)

Bison Range visit

Last Saturday Scott and Dane traveled through the National Bison Range in the Mission Valley. They spotted lots of wildlife including these two bison lounging on a Spring afternoon. The Mission Range is still snowcapped in the background even though the temperature was in the 70’s.

Annual Variety Show is a blast

Diana just finished directing her 12th annual Bigfork Variety Show (Cowabunga Variety Show) in April 2014, raising $7,000 to be distributed to the Bigfork area schools and youth programs.  The show is performed at the Bigfork Center for Performing Arts every Spring.

Diana and her husband, Glen, take in a forest service trail road in the foothills of the Swan Mountain Range in Bigfork – A hike up Bear Creek Rd with their dog Mojo makes for a great morning hike.

4th of July in Bigfork, MT

Scott’s flag is featured almost every year in the 4th of July parade in Bigfork.  It almost spans the width of Electric Avenue.  Scott’s wife Dia drives the red “Bug”.

Glacier Park webcams

Just stumbled upon this link to Glacier Park’s selection of Webcams.  There are eight of them scattered throughout the park. This time of year the residents of the Flathead Valley also wonder how the spring plowing of the Going To The Sun Road is coming along.  Glacier Park fuels our curiosity with great photos of (continued…)

Ice Fishing – Echo Lake, Montana!

  A hole in one?  No, no – wrong sport.  However it is ice fishing time in the Flathead Valley!  Just drive around the area lakes and sloughs and you’ll see huts and holes and all kinds of ages on the lakes waiting for that catch of the day.  Here on Echo Lake the day (continued…)

Huckleberries – Purple Gold!

Huckleberry season is alive and well this summer.  I’ve had the pleasure of picking up on Crane Mountain and along the Hungry Horse Reservoir.  Others pick up on Big Mountain along the trails to the summit.   Later in August you can pick up in the Jewel Basin at the higher elevations.
